Dune Awakening brings its opening gameplay beats in its weekend beta test, now underway

Today begins the big beefy beta test for the survival MMORPG Dune: Awakening, letting players kick the tires of Funcom’s latest desert playspace, experience enough of the game to maybe buy in, and ideally provide the studio with actual test data because that’s what a beta should be doing. Right, bean counters? Right?

This build will offer up what Funcom calls a solid taste of the game in general, granting about 20-odd hours of gameplay through to the early mid-game portion of progression and the first act of the story. Bear in mind, though, that character progress won’t carry over from beta to launch.

Testing length will run from now until Monday, May 12th, and will be available to PC players only. Accessing the beta can be done by either pressing the access request button on Steam, signing up via email, or trying your luck by grabbing a code during a May 10th livestream.

And speaking of livestreams, our own MJ and Larry will be live on OPTV tonight at 8:00 p.m. EDT as they dive in to the beta themselves. You can also check out the initial impressions of MOP’s Larry, who found the survivalbox to be best approached as a sandbox MMORPG – a classification the game certainly falls in to despite Funcom’s hedging.
