As we’ve been noting all through the past day or two, Dune: Awakening has kicked off its large-scale beta weekend, and while the servers were unsurprisingly shaky, the hype is still strong. Even better, players who bought in to the game ahead of its June 10th launch are now being granted access. And yes, the fact that this wasn’t the case to begin with surprised us too.
According to Funcom’s announcement, guaranteed access to this weekend’s beta is being worked on with Steam, meaning anyone who has bought or will buy any of the game’s different editions should see a beta product in their library; if not, then players are being asked to restart Steam. Previously Funcom confirmed that invites were being sent in waves in order to monitor performance metrics, but now the floodgates are being opened a bit wider.
As for the game’s activity overall, the game’s subreddit is pretty effusive, with most players appreciating the game’s story and setting as well as some of its more hard-bitten edges like the sandworm eating everything a character is wearing or holding. Other posts across the sub involve either asking for or offering an access key, while others point out some of the oddball bugs and performance problems they’ve run in to. SteamDB also shows a peak of over 17K concurrent players so far, which we expect will only rise as the weekend moves on.
Incidentally that same sub is where recent patch notes can be found that address some UI bugs, geometry oddness, and access to the game from China.
