Yep, we’re once again keeping an eye on every thing that’s happening in Dune: Awakening. OK, not every thing, just most of the things. The interesting and important things. Like how the opening of beta access to those who pre-ordered the survival MMO had the predictable effect of rising player concurrency.
That’s right, letting folks in to the beta for money did indeed see a significant population spike as 37,889 players ran into digital Arrakis at the highest all-time peak, and nearly as many were in-game during the latest 24-hour peak. And it would appear that the servers stood up to the pressure: Funcom reported that just one of its servers needed a reboot.
Chatter about the game is also proliferating on Reddit as expected, with some people clutching pearls over PvP balancing but most discussions involving continued happy noises about the MMO, some fun base builds, and at least one attempt at gathering players in one spot in the hopes that they’re eaten by a sandworm just as the beta ends.
Yesterday did see the last open invites sent out, so if you didn’t get your golden ticket, that’s it for you. But hey, we had MOP’s own MJ and Larry stream their time within the beta; you can watch that below and live vicariously through them. Maybe dump some sand onto your clothes for maximum immersion if you really want to. Weirdo.
