PAX East 2025: Final Fantasy XI and XIV crosses over into Magic the Gathering

It’s perhaps one of the most significant crossovers to ever happen to Magic the Gathering, at least if you’re an MMORPG player: This June, the popular trading card game is releasing its Final Fantasy set expansion — and yes, characters from both MMOs will be transformed into cards themselves.

The Final Fantasy set is part of Magic’s “Universes Beyond” push and is expected to draw in huge numbers for Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast when it debuts on June 13th. The set is drawing inspiration from all of the mainline Final Fantasy titles. For example, Shantotto is representing FFXI, while FFXIV’s Y’shtola will appear as well.

“The beloved Final Fantasy RPG series’ sixteen mainline games of unforgettable characters, items, and moments are now here in Magic: The Gathering! Cast powerful spells, call upon classic summons, and even visit your favorite locations on the back of a chocobo. Countless elements from the games are here for you to weave together your own story,” Wizards of the Coast said.
