PAX East 2025: First Descendant brings new zone, gear, characters, and NieR Automata collab this summer

Multiplayer shooty-with-the-booty The First Descendant is preparing for its third season this summer, and with it comes a whole bunch of new things, according to Nexon’s livestream from PAX East, like a new area, a new story, new things to fight, and new gear to fight them with. Also NieR: Automata is going to be crammed in there somehow.

The primary feature of this upcoming season is the opening of a large new field zone known as the Axion Plains. This large region is where players will face new threats including a new eight-player boss raid against the massive Wall Crasher colossus, along with a new story that reintroduces the villain Karel and promises to bring a turning point to the game’s narrative.

Of course, a zone as large as the Axion Plains would be challenging to run around in (even if you’re playing Bunny), so the new season will also introduce hover bikes to the game. Players will be handed this first-ever mount simply by logging in during Season 3, can upgrade their hover bike with boost and jump abilities, and find enhanced models by exploring the Plains.

The new season is also bringing other additions such as a now-playable version of the character Nell and an ultimate version of Luna, a new katana-like sword weapon with the promise of two other types of swords (a lightsaber-like weapon and a two-handed greatsword) coming later, a lounge feature that lets players watch their favorite character in a room (yikes), and a crossover event with the action game NieR: Automata; details on that are promised soon.

Season 3: Breakthrough is coming sometime in the summer, but for now there’s a teaser trailer as well as the full PAX East 2025 devstream waiting below.
