Nexon Q1 2025: MapleStory and Mabinogi Mobile are keeping The First Descendant afloat

Nexon has clocked another solid quarter in Q1, with revenue of Â¥113.9B ($777.7M US) – up 5% compared to this same quarter last year. The company in particular credited its success to “strong growth” in MapleStory in both Korea and the rest of the world, as well as to the Dungeon&Fighter and the Mabinogi franchise, whose Mabinogi Mobile edition “significantly outperformed outlook.” These games apparently made up for “shortfalls” in titles like The First Berserker Khazan and The First Descendant.

Indeed, Nexon says TFD was “below outlook” but that “the second episode of Season 2 improved player metrics including AUs and ACUs” and that the next update, the Breakthrough update expected in July, is “expected to re-establish momentum.”

“The First Descendant: Q1 revenue fell below our expectations due to lower-than-anticipated sales from a new episode of Season 2, but player metrics improved. In July, the first anniversary of the game will be celebrated with a Season 3 Breakthrough update, which will bring fresh excitement with new open fields, monsters, large-scale battles, cooperative gameplay and more.”

As for The Finals, Nexon says its sixth season was “successful” and improved player metrics; moreover, the game is aiming for testing in China (under Tencent’s banner) later in 2025.

The company does warn investors to expect a YoY dip in Q2.
