If you’re the sort of person who has been invested in the territory control mechanics in Mortal Online 2, you might be among those who feel that the system isn’t particularly interesting, especially since it provides little benefit for its otherwise higher costs. Star Vault has heard this feedback and in its latest livestream has laid out what will change for the system when the Reckoning update arrives.
Instead of territory control focusing on keeps and making their influence borders clash (and therefore cause GvG fights), the system will instead bring 31 full regions for players to hold sway over. Ownership of a region provides unique buffs depending on what land is held such as better mining yield, better fishing yield, or faster pet XP.
Owning a region is predicated on the claiming and siege of outposts, which are wooden structures that serve as the nexus for guilds to earn region materials and benefits. Sieges are engaged via the world map at a hefty cost of guild gold and prominence, after which an hour-long countdown timer starts before the assault can begin. Assuming an attacking guild breaks the gates and raises its flag, that region comes under their control and cannot be assaulted again for two hours, though testing may change how long that timer is.
Even though outposts are the primary way for territories to be controlled, keeps aren’t being removed; Star Vault is instead attempting to figure out how to make them more appealing and is open to player feedback. The studio is also asking for players to submit their thoughts on existing siege mechanics and has opened a questionnaire to facilitate this data gathering. As for when the Reckoning will come, there’s no date yet, but clearly there are plans.
