Stop me if you’ve heard this one: Fractured is going offline for a reboot. Not, it’s not 2023. It’s 2025. And it’s happening again. Bright and early this morning, Fractured’s new owners announced that they are closing down the game for a relaunch that isn’t happening until early next year. Ooof.
“Fractured Online is entering a bold new chapter. We’re officially shutting down the current version on June 15, 2025, to fully rebuild and relaunch the game in Quarter 1 of 2026 with modern tech, revamped systems, and a focus on a better player experience,” Happy Cauldron Games, the player-led team that bought out Fractured studio Dynamight Studios back in March, writes today. The new studio is planning to have the game back in some sort of limited testing in Q3, though, so if you’re a core player, you likely won’t be fully offline for long, and of course, players aren’t going to lose their founder rewards, VIP time, or tokens.
The devs give two key reasons to bring the back back to the drawing board again: the need to replace outdated networking tech with a migration to the Coherence backend), and the need to revamp “the entire game experience from character progression and PvP, archetypes, combat mechanics, and visual fidelity.”
Readers will recall that the game also went offline back in 2023 following an apparently hostile split with publisher Gamigo; at that point, its early access was inaccessible for half a year. Backers – yes, this was originally a Kickstarted MMORPG – were finally able to play again in June 2023. The game then left early access for launch last summer. Now, it’s going dark once again… but at least it’s not forever.
