Make My MMO: Star Citizen’s pay-to-win fiasco, Fractured Offline, and Everwind ahoy

Welcome back to Make My MMO, MOP’s long-running column where we keep track of crowdfunded MMOs, both brand-new titles just starting their campaigns and older games long past their fundraising.

Star Citizen’s free-fly should’ve been the focus of the weekend, but alas, CIG managed to incite an online riot instead as backers rightly called out new pay-to-win ship gear called blades as well as other ship components. It turns out Star Citizen players do have a line that cannot be crossed when it comes to fleecing them! Indeed, CIG has already made concessions, promising that future comps will be available in-game too.

And then there’s Fractured, whose new owners have now decided to take the game dark for the next half year and change while they work on the promised reboot, now slated for early 2026.

Meanwhile, Embers Adrift finally made it to Steam, Ashes of Creation saw a staggering 8000 concurrent players during its May test, Puzkin canceled its Kickstarter, and Bohemia launched the Kickstarter for Everwind as promised (and it’s almost certain to fund).

Read on for more on what’s been up with MMO crowdfunding over the last few weeks, plus our roundup of all the crowdfunded MMOs we’re following!

Yes, some crowdfunded MMOs most definitely do succeed. But others crash and burn, and you need to hear about the whole spectrum of games that sought your money early in exchange for the promise of input and transparency. And that’s exactly what Make My MMO does several times a month. Help us keep ’em accountable, would ya?
