Yes, we’re surprised to be reminded that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is a thing, and that lack of knowledge of the game’s existence is very possibly why Activision announced that updates to the game will end after keeping it online for only a year.
“[W]hile we’re proud of the accomplishment in bringing Call of Duty: Warzone to mobile in an authentic way, it unfortunately has not met our expectations with mobile-first players like it has with PC and console audiences,” the studio notes in the announcement. “As a result, we will no longer be delivering new seasonal content and gameplay updates to the mobile version.”
The game was pulled from mobile app stores this past weekend; the purchase of currencies with real-world money has already been disengaged. The game itself will remain online for the foreseeable future, including cross-progression of shared inventories using existing content and online matchmaking, but new things will no longer come.
Fans are also being directed to Call of Duty Mobile, which is still online and running its third season, and are being offered incentives to try the other COD mobile shooter. But for pocket Warzone fans, it’s curtains.
