If you shelled out for either of the two largest Dune Awakening preorder packs, your time has come! No, literally, your time to play Dune Awakening has come. That’s because the headstart has just begun.
Now, we’ve been covering this game for over six years: At the beginning of 2019, Funcom was riding high on Conan Exiles and had just inked a deal to launch multiple DUNE games, including an MMO. Then Tencent bought out Funcom and invested hard in getting the Dune MMO out the door. Six years (at least a few) delays later, we’re finally here.
MOP’s Larry – our resident SWTOR and Conan Exiles fan – played the game’s press build just a few weeks ago, arguing that it’s an “MMORPG pretending to be a survival game but not quite living up to the expectations of either.” That said, he preordered it, so that ought to tell you where he landed on it.
Bearing in mind that no matter what Funcom’s “survival MMO” label may say, this game has the infrastructure of an MMORPG, and of course, it’s Funcom, so don’t be surprised if it’s a bumpy road this morning. For those of you just watching – or clutching your $50 package tightly, waiting for your turn next week – perhaps order in another crate of popcorn.
