At the Xbox Showcase this weekend, ZeniMax Online Studios dropped an apparently controversial but actually fairly fluffy trailer for The Elder Scrolls Online that has players yapping.
The video is set to the Byrds’ 1960s cover of Turn! Turn! Turn!, which is the subject of a lot of the consternation, as players complain it has a Guardians of the Galaxy montage feel and other people are just being weirdly ageist (and homophobic for some reason?) about it. But we’re finding it rather inspired, especially given the juxtaposition of the lyrics with the antics of the characters in the scenes and the cute Ja’khajiit Raz the camera follows along; it’s nostalgic, sandboxy, cozy, and tongue-in-cheek a la Fallout 76.
But on YouTube and Reddit, the comments include complaints about the slide bragging about 26M players (that’s over the last 11 years, total, not currently) as well as about some of the content on feature (like the volleyball court) and… actually, you know what, don’t read the salty comments. Just watch the video and try not to cut yourself on that edge. It really is OK for things to be cute and endearing sometimes, promise.
