Overwatch 2 promises ‘groundskeeper’ updates to existing content in Seasons 17 and 18

A game like Overwatch 2 having lots of new things added on can frequently cause players to worry that existing features will be ignored as everyone – devs and players – focuses on the new shiny. If that’s your mindset, then the latest dev blog from director Aaron Keller may help to ease your mind, as he writes about tending to the game like a sort of garden.

“The Overwatch team? We’re groundskeepers. Sure, we’re organizing big events and building proverbial landscapes to draw in new players and entertain our regulars. But at the same time, it’s our responsibility to care for everything that keeps the garden growing. We trim the hedges, pull the weeds, and right the walking paths so we’re all headed in the same direction.”

On the subject of that garden maintenance, Keller promises reworks for the Flashpoint mode maps of Suravasa and New Junk City in a mid-season update for Season 17, more transformative major perks for existing heroes in Stadium mode for Season 18, and a promise to tweak to characters like Sombra and Freja as a result of their high ban rates. These are features on top of new things planned including a new map and map voting for Flashpoint, but generally the devs are making sure to trim the verge.
