In just a couple of months’ time, players of The First Descendant will get to tear around on sweet hoverbikes while shooting lots and lots of baddies. That’s the promise provided by the looter shooter in its latest trailer from Summer Game Fest, which provides a cinematics-only preview of the Breakthrough update along with its confirmed release date of Thursday, August 7th.
Readers might remember that the features of this patch were first shared at this year’s PAX East: The Breakthrough update will introduce the new massive open map of Axion Plains, the aforementioned hover bikes mount, two more playable characters, and the introduction of a new sword weapon, starting first with a katana and bringing a laser sword and two-handed sword later.
Of course, there’s lots of time between now and August, which Nexon will be filling with other updates and events. Leading things off is a YouTube livestream scheduled for Wednesday, June 11th, which promises to showcase Breakthrough’s features as well as update plans for the remainder of June and July.
Another showcase broadcast is scheduled for July 1st to mark the game’s first anniversary as well as provide even more details about Breakthrough, then on July 24th, players will be able to demo the Axion Plains, the new Colossus Field Raid, and the hoverbike directly. In the meantime, players can pre-register for the patch, sure why not, in order to get potential rewards including their choice of an ultimate character if signups hit one million.
