The Daily Grind: How do you manage your MMORPG alts?

Assuming, of course, that you do!

You might not know this about me, but I’m a bit of a spreadsheet junkie. I have spreadsheets for literally everything, especially for my games… and my alts. I’ve never found an in-game addon for any of my MMOs that quite handles my flotilla of alts to my specifications, so I usually just make a spreadsheet to suit me.

I like to track my classes, levels, and servers, of course, but I also keep track of things like builds, unlocks, and what I was up to when last I played them. And in games like City of Heroes, I also track when I last burned up their rested experience.

I got to thinking about this after a cheeky LOTRO player quipped about how to handle a whopping 300 alts. Maybe hyperbole?

I didn’t quite realize how many LOTRO players really do have dozens of characters that make my small fleet seem small until the transfers, when I saw lots of grumbling about gamers with alts taking up more than their fair share of the transfer resources. Huh!

How do you manage your alts in MMOs that allow more than one toon?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
