One of the more interesting single-player games to come out of 2019 was Control, a third-person action-adventure title from Remedy Entertainment that put players in the shoes of Jesse Faden, the director of a secret agency known as the Federal Bureau of Control that’s tasked with containing paranormal and extra-dimensional threats. The game got itself a pair of DLCs and earned itself some pretty favorable acclaim from critics and players.
Why is this all on an MMO and multiplayer games site? Because a three-player co-op FPS set in the world of Control has just released known as FBC: Firebreak for PC on Steam and EGS, PlayStation 5, and Xbox X|S.
“When the Oldest House, the Bureau’s shifting headquarters, falls under siege by a relentless paranatural force, only Firebreak – its most adaptable response unit – has the skills and courage to restore order.”
The game of self-described “paranatural pandemonium” puts players together to take on jobs that promise shifting environments, objectives, and challenges that require teamwork and adaptability.
Unfortunately it would appear that initial response is lukewarm at best, with critical reaction panning the game as “a second job,” “disappointingly bland,” and mechanically messy, while user reviews on Steam have complained about a lack of content, same-y enemies, and progression tied to a battle pass. So perhaps sit on your $40 for a bit while this one cooks a bit more.
