Pax Dei’s team isn’t throwing in the towel or even pulling back from the insane challenge of pulling off a MMORPG sandbox. Rather, Mainframe Industries deployed Verse 3: Path of the Adventurer last week, its “most ambitious content update so far” — and then had to spend the remainder of the week dealing with nasty building issues.
Now that things have calmed down somewhat, the devs compiled a number of community questions about the game’s audio to answer. Apparently the world overhaul included a big change to the soundtrack: “Ambience now has more than double the amount of new music, and the soundscape itself has been revised with new details, some of which have been removed and mixed differently. We still have some work to do here.”
Other questions cover walking sounds, surface noises, indoor detection, special weapon sounds, and, um, how the team got goats to scream on cue. “It’s a mix of various goat recordings and a lot of editing, especially for more combat-focused sounds, as we can’t really go punch a real goat to get that sound, can we?” asked the devs.
I mean, you could, but you’re going to get a head-butting in turn.
