A new RIFT patch is percolating for next week – the first for the MMO since 2022

If you were hoping for business model snark, you will be disappointed.

Here’s a pleasant shocker for mid-2025: RIFT is preparing to bring an actual patch to bear on June 24th. The Ghar Station reports that Gamigo’s actually been working on a new update for the mostly maintenance-moded MMORPG, the first such patch since May 2022.

Now don’t get your hopes too high for a RIFT revival this summer, but it is encouraging to see more than a mere bug fix patch. The update will bring back Summerfest for the month of July, add the Riftbound Ursin mount, re-activate four-hour minion missions, toss in a new store banner, and improve the client.

RIFT was developed by Trion Worlds and launched in March 2011. The studio put out three full expansions for the MMO before going under in 2018, at which point Gamigo snapped up the game (along with Trion’s other titles) and has been operating it in a vastly reduced capacity ever since. While the title’s survived longer than expected and is getting nominal improvements by its current owners, die-hard fans hope for a much brighter future for this full-featured MMO.
