The Daily Grind: Is there a genuine hunger out there for good new MMORPGs?

It was encouraging to read Fantastic Pixel Castle’s Greg Street write up a manifesto (of sorts) about why he and his team are driven to create an MMORPG even in the face of difficulty and risk. But what was most interesting to me is that he said out loud something that we’ve been saying here at MOP for a while, which is that there’s a strong – and unmet – demand for good new MMOs out there.

Street wrote, “At FPC, we interpret the fact that players will try new MMOs so readily to say that the hunger for a new game is there. This isn’t the same situation as MOBAs or even BRs where there is a stupendously competitive market and perhaps even a bit of player fatigue for new titles.”

So my question today is this: Do you agree with that statement? Is there a latent “hunger” for new MMOs and an opportunity for a well-designed one to break big into this market? Are you yourself eager for some fresh entries on the scene?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
