If you have the opportunity to learn to be a ninja, would you take it? Of course you would; ninjas are rad. But doing so in the real world is considerably harder than one might expect, mostly on account of ninjas being hard to detect, probably. So why not take an alternative route and become a digital ninja character in the retro-styled MMO Nin Online instead?

Players in Nin Online create a character, join one of three different factions, and then strengthen themselves enough where they can explore the “very hardcore” open world of FFA PvP. Developer Hitspark does even remark on its Steam page that this gameplay “means a bad time for some with a low tolerance for being killed for no reason. But for others, it’s just another reason to get stronger in this harsh Ninjaverse.” However, an introductory post on Reddit also talks up PvE content and a “social ninja world.”

That same post also talks about recent additions to the game like guild features, a stamina mechanic that adds additional movement in traversal and combat, boss fights, crafting, and tameable mounts. The game has also just recently opened a PTS for players to try out new updates before they release.

Nin Online is a free-to-play title but is also in early access, with the length of development set to run “as long as it takes” for the MMORPG to be feature complete. In terms of general player reception, Steam reviews list it at “very positive,” with gamers either loving or hating the grindy nature of the title.
