Do you remember Drakantos? It’s a 2-D pixel art MMOARPG in development by indie dev Wingeon Game Studios that we’ve been covering since 2023. The game lets players take up the role of a wide assortment of heroes, take on missions, fight fierce bosses, or engage in PvP. We even had an opportunity to speak with the game’s lead developer in an interview.
Development has continued to slide along since, now moving enough to a point where it’s ready to start closed beta testing on the weekend of Friday, July 25th. Players who are interested in entering their names for selection simply click the “request access” button on Steam to be considered, and those who are selected will also be able to invite a friend thanks to a new Steam option, though that person will have to be in your friends list for 30 days at minimum.
Meanwhile the last dev update post from February showcases the new tank character Yuki, confirms a total of 195 pets, and marks the completion of a wide variety of systems like XP, loot tables, item upgrades, story quests, and more. The final remaining piece, according to Wingeon, is finishing up the game’s open world and its quests, though it also notes that this requires extra work and leaves the door open for a possible delay for its mid-2025 release window.
