Monster Hunter Wilds adds new monsters and features while Steam reviews continue to tank

Yesterday was patch day for Monster Hunter Wilds as the free Title Update 2 came online as promised, bringing with it two returning monsters in the form of Lagiacrus and Seregios, a wide swath of balance adjustments, the ability to reskin weapons, and the promise of additional monsters and events including the summertime Flamefete event on July 23rd and arch-tempered Uth Duna on July 30th.

The patch also introduced some updates to PC to try to fix performance, but it looks as if Steam users are still absolutely furious. Reviews for the game on the platform have sat in the “overwhelmingly negative” aggregate for the past few days, but TU2 apparently hasn’t reversed fortunes for the game, as players are still grumbling about texture streaming, crashes, and poor optimization. The red reviews are still pouring in today even as Capcom released a hotfix that sought to correct framerate issues with ranged weapons, a very specific disconnect issue, and unintentionally lowered rewards for tempered versions of Lagiacrus and Seregios.

Even with all of this apparent Steam-specific fury (one review is mad that Seregios, a monster who likes to kick at players, is kicking at players), there appears to be some more general positivity in Reddit of all places, as fans squeal happily at the underwater combat portion of the Legiacrus fight, show off new looks with the improved photo mode, and provide peeks at some surprising and skillful play, although there are still some posts that continue to bring up performance problems and odd bugs.
