We’ve been covering BetaDwarf’s multiplayer game Vaultbreakers for so long that it’s had two other names along the way – Project Haven and Project F4E – and while it’s long since pivoted from MMO to extraction OARPG, it’s still one we’re watching. In fact, we’re watching even more closely now as today, the studio announced a major investment haul thanks to Square-Enix.

“After revealing their new project: Vaultbreakers, in January 2025, BetaDwarf today announced a new investment led by Square Enix to accelerate the development of this upcoming title,” the press release says. “The funding will help BetaDwarf improve its production capabilities and deepen the game’s ongoing community-driven development.”

“After visiting BetaDwarf and learning about the team’s mission and passion, we decided to invest in them to help realize their dream and bring this game to players around the world,” Square’s Hideaki Uehara reportedly said.

Now calling the game a “top-down high-stakes adventure action RPG,” BetaDwarf has released a fresh trailer and a playtest that begins… today. In fact, the PR reminds us that the studio has already roped in a total of 50,000 players for its last 15 tests. This one will run through July 9th; keys are accessible through the signup button on the official site (and also apparently on Steam, though the PR doesn’t mention it).

The studio notes that it’s rejiggered its roadmap to speed up deployment of the solo queue and PvE mode, the former of which is testable now. That new trailer is down below.
