The Daily Grind: How much attention do you pay to your MMO’s lore?

The richness of an MMO’s lore does not actually matter, on some level, because no matter what, you are going to have two groups of players. One group wants to find out every element of the lore with a rigor and determination usually reserved for figuring out ancient Greek birth records, and the other group wants to never have to learn anything more involved than who the next boss to fight might be. Now, the quality and volume of lore can affect the size of those groups, but no matter how detailed, both groups will exist.

Most people do not fall into either extreme; even the people who care very little for lore will learn place names and the idea of who is supposed to be the bad guys, and the people who are utterly fixated on lore realize there’s a good time to disengage and go do something else. But where do you fall? How much attention do you pay to your MMO’s lore? And if you have multiple MMOs, does it vary?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
