Alas, poor Anthem; we knew it, Horatio. The game never really got over with players, and while it launched to two million units sold, it only ever hit about five million in total. Unfortunately, it looks as if now the final sunset approaches for the game, as Electronic Arts has announced it will sunset game’s servers, shutting them down altogether on January 12th, 2026. Players can continue to play the game normally until then, but you can’t buy any new premium currency for the game as of right now.

The FAQ on the closure states that no offline mode is considered or forthcoming, as the game was always planned as an online title. This is not a shock after its initial plans for a reboot and relaunch died mid-development, so if you already own the game and want to get in some last gliding and shooting sessions, you should do that within the next few months. While it may not come as a surprise, it’s still a sad ending for what was once pushed as a big new title and franchise. The one piece of good news? The shutdown notice states outright that this closure does not involve any layoffs, so while it’s a goodbye, it’s not a loss of any jobs.
