Sometimes satire can be subtle and sneaky, but other times it can be swung at you like a cinderblock tied to a rope. We’re suspecting the latter method is being leveraged by Grand Theft Auto Online over this Fourth of July holiday weekend, as the multiplayer open world is absolutely awash in star-spangled opulence all across the game.
The ‘Murica-ness starts with a whole suite of discounts on various in-game vehicles like the JoBuilt P-996 LAZER fighter jet, the Vapid Liberator off-road vehicle, and the Western Sovereign motorcycle; lower prices to start a variety of criminal enterprise properties like nightclubs, cocaine lockups, and salvage yards; and discounted prices on a whole host of thematic cosmetics and weapons. Players can also get their hands on newly added beer hats and a Statue of Happiness t-shirt from business battle crates and be handed a Lady Liberty bucket hat just for logging in between now and July 9th.
The rest of the weekend is offering boosts for earnings in a wide assortment of activities, including two salvage yard robbery vehicles, quadrupled GTA$ and RP in land races, tripled GTA$ and RP in community series jobs, and doubled goodies for tow truck and auto client jobs. It’s a whole weekend of patriotic criming on offer that is definitely nowhere near tongue-in-cheek, we’d say.
