Elite Dangerous players have probably already noticed that the expected start of the Horizons beta didn’t happen on November 9th as planned. That’s because Frontier ran into a few snags and decided to postpone the beta until next Monday.
“We are very sorry about this, but it is not yet ready for a proper beta test because of some blocking issues,” CEO David Braben posted. “We are confident in the Monday 30th date as we already have the key components to fix the issues we are seeing.”
To take the sting out of the delay, Braben posted a sneak peek of a ship doing a very close fly-by of Europa and promised that players will be able to land on that moon in the expansion. Check it out after the break.
newest playable character has a very familiar voice actress behind her. Tara Strong
, who has voiced characters in many cartoons and Star Wars: The Old Republic
, returned to the superhero MMO to tackle a Russian accent for Magik. She previously lent her talents to the game for Squirrel Girl and Dagger.
In a new video released this week, Strong discusses what she’s learned about the character and how she tackled the role. “Magik’s voice has to be strong but not off-putting. She has to be likable,” Strong said. “She has a lot of different sides to her.”
You can check out the video after the break!
What’s more appropriate on Thanksgiving than being a Hobbit? Nothing! Food and our furry-footed friends go together like cheese and crackers, like peanut butter and jelly, like… well, you get the idea. Who knows, there might even be pie to steal there! Join us live at 7:00 p.m. as as OPTV‘s infamous Stream Team brings you…

MassivelyOP’s MJ can’t let Thanksgiving go by without checking in on her favorite flying game. After all, Aion
is responsible for her tenure with MOP, and she’s forever grateful for that! And with the recent update
that changed the topography of the Abyss, MJ is excited to dive in and see how much things have changed. Tune in live at 12:00 p.m. as she tries to avoid getting her wings singed in the full flight/open PvP zone.

Game soundtracks like this are the reason why I scrounge outside of the well-known MMOs for hidden gems. As I’ve often said before, the quality (or popularity) of a game and its soundtrack aren’t always equal. So while Ragnarok 2 might not be the MMO on everyone’s lips these days, its soundtrack is certainly worthy of being poured into our ears.
While the original Ragnarok Online’s score is a take-it-or-leave-it proposition for me, the sequel is a treasure trove of delightful tracks and energetic melodies. Ragnarok 2’s score was composed by Yoko Kanno, who is well-known for her works in many anime projects including Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop. She’s also had her fingers in Continent of the Ninth (C9), which now puts that game’s score on my to-listen list.
Whether you’ve played Ragnarok 2 or not, I hope you join me for this brief tour through its musical highlights!
Do you have a friend who hasn’t gotten into Destiny but might be ripe for the converting? Bungie is hoping that you’ll persuade him or her to give it a try and is providing incentive for both parties with its refer-a-friend program.
By teaming up and going through quests in this program, everyone involved can earn several cosmetic rewards in the game. These include shaders, emblems, a mount, emotes, and sword skins. VG247 has a breakdown of what each of the rewards look like, if you’re looking for a non-PR perspective.
We’ve got the new refer-a-friend trailer after the break as well as a spot for the new legendary edition that is available to buy this holiday season.
It’s been a while since MassivelyOP’s Larry and MJ did the 12 Days of TOR
, where they put their Star Wars: The Old Republic
lives in the hands of viewers. But they haven’t forgotten their promise to return to the Choose My Adventure format. MJ’s Agent still has some adventures to finish before she can move into the expansion content, and you get to decide whether she leans toward the light side or dark side. Join us live at 1:00 p.m. to dictate her alignment choices. (And you never know, there might even be a !vote flirt in there somewhere as well.)

There is no way in the world to know when the second closed beta for a localized Black Desert will take place, although the first is planned for December. Why can’t you know? Because it’s all up in the air and depends wholly upon the localization process. There’s a lot of text to translate before the game is ready for wider testing and release. That’s an important takeaway from a recent set of community questions answered by the official sources.
Players who aren’t interested in playing any of the starter classes at launch will be able to reserve names and such for the post-launch classes; however, only the launch classes will have access to the pre-order costumes and such. There are also changes planned from the game’s native client for the first closed beta, and a later reply confirms that the game will feature very dark nights (you can check that out in a video just below). Fans will have to keep waiting for more news about the game’s release, but the first beta test should be firing up next month.
Crowfall has been in development for eight months now. That sounds like a substantial amount of time until you think about how long games typically take to go from “Kickstarter concept” to “playable game.” A new video from the development team shows off a part of the process by highlighting the development team’s biweekly sprint meetings and how they aid the overall process.
The short version is that sprint meetings are quick opportunities for every developer to jump in, highlight the past weeks of work, and touch base about moving forward. Really, though, the video does an excellent job of showing the process over time. Settle in and watch just below – it’s about half an hour, though, so make sure you don’t have anywhere that requires your urgent presence in five minutes.
Hey, we don’t make the puns; we just report on them. Trove has indeed released its Block Friday patch in time for Thanksgiving here in the US, and players are gobbling it up.
In addition to several sales for the holiday, the patch includes the tools and ability for players to start creating their own custom battle arenas. Now, the full toolset isn’t available yet, nor will players be able to fight in the arenas until a future update, but it’s a good start for those wanting to make their own PvP pits.
The patch had a rougher-than-normal rollout, although everything seems to be fine now. You can check out a player video guide to the patch and its various goodies after the break.
With so many festivals, events, and now the expansion, MassivelyOP’s MJ hasn’t had time to focus any on the core game of EverQuest II. And with two toons in their 40s, there is certainly plenty of stuff to do. She could travel to Steamfont and continue the Golden Path, adventure in the jungle of The Feerrot, dodge molten rock in Lavastorm, or even visit the hive in Rivervale. The bigger question is, should MJ dust off and play her Paladin, or should she keep playing on the Channeler? Tune in live at 8:00 p.m. to help her decide.

The Reboot world is a new way to experience MapleStory, or perhaps an old way to experience it in a new way. It’s a chance to start fresh, but also a chance to take on a new sort of challenge in the game. Players on the Reboot world will be facing harder monsters along with bigger rewards for slaying them, simplified item upgrades, and an environment that’s generally all about just smashing the crap out of monsters before taking their stuff.
Many of the existing cash shop items will be purchased for mesos on the Reboot world, while other items can be purchased directly rather than as part of surprise boxes and the like. Players can also create any job desired on the world, other than Zeros, and receive loot drops oriented just for the specific job being played. Check out a trailer just below if you want to try a fresh reboot on the game experience.
Just because it’s a holiday week doesn’t mean that Marvel Heroes is going to call it a day and go eat a ton of turkey. On the contrary, the superhero title has added its 53rd hero, Magik, to the roster and is hosting a Thanksgiving event.
Magik was the result of a fan vote for a new character and is coming to the game with the voice talents of Tara Strong. She’s the sister of fellow X-Men teammate Colossus and has a wide range of abilities including demon summons, Soulsword attacks, sorcery, and teleportation disks.
Today’s patch makes some significant changes to dodge and defense systems and nerfs enemy damage 40% across the board. It also ushers in a Thanksgiving period for the rest of the week that includes daily gifts and simultaneously running events.
You can check out Magik in her new trailer below.
