So long, Allods Online; you will be remembered. The Russian-made fantasy MMO is shutting down… in China. The English servers are still just fine. We probably should have specified that. Yes, the game is going away after three years of operation, with the shutdown planned for late August and a slow shutdown along the way.
The end of August coincides with the end of the contract that Chinese publisher Giant Interactive held with Allods Team, so it may be more accurate to say that the publisher simply declined to renew that contract for another period of time. Western games have a tendency to not last very long in China, but still, our sympathies to any players in the country losing their preferred game.
Skyforge wannabe deities, you may want to clear your calendar for early next month because closed beta is coming! The team announced today that the first closed beta test will commence on March 11th with lots of new content, the ability to play never-before-tested classes, and a look at the Orders of Aelion system.
While you can take a chance on getting a spot in the beta via sign-up, you can lock in your place by purchasing one of Skyforge’s new Founder’s Packs. The packs, which range from $20 to $70, include a spot in closed beta tests, early access to the open beta, currency, name reservations, and more.

Allods has announced that its 6.0 Broken Chains update will hit your server on March 5th. “Many innovative features await you, ” the dev team promises, “from mountain-hopping travel systems and optimized reward trading to progress-logging and optional raid modes that are built to suit your pace.”
Today’s news blurb says that more information is on the way between now and the big day. In the meantime, it also features links to previous articles on glyph and equipment changes, the Kingdom of Elements, and more.

What sort of character are you going to make in Skyforge? A new user video shows off the character creator and classes from the most recent Russian test event, walking viewers through the various creation options in some detail. The video is embedded just past the break, and there are plenty of sliders, idle pose options, and the like to customize your character’s look. There’s even an option to wear a silver minidress into battle if that’s really your speed.
You can also take a look at how stats and abilities will work in the game, but that’s the sort of character customization that comes in after you’re already in the game.
Maybe you’re the sort who would rather wait and see the game with your own eyes instead of the test version, though? We can’t give you that just yet, but you can take a little tour of Alakur Island with a new scrolling panorama on the official site. It’s not as good as being to explore the zone on your own two feet, but it shows off the environmental design and the visual flow of the area.
