Make My MMO: Ever Jane’s beta, Project Gorgon’s dancing, Star Citizen’s $120M (August 27, 2016)

This week in MMO crowdfunding news, Project Gorgon received a big quality-of-life patch this weekend. Of note, the game now offers synchronized dancing! “If three or more players dance to music, they will be prompted to perform a particular dance ‘move’,” writes ElderGame. “If at least three dancers perform the specified move, all spectators receive a choreography boost. […] A massive troupe of 12 (or more) dancers performing reasonably well together can give spectators a Dance Appreciation buff.” You can also expect adjustments to work orders, mob aggro, and GUI scaling, among several dozen new changes.

Want more dancing? Social MMORPG sandbox Ever, Jane launched its open beta this week. The Jane Austen-themed game was originally Kickstarted to the tune of over $100,000.

And Star Citizen broke the $120,000,000 barrier in its ongoing crowdfunding; the game’s 2.5 alpha went live this week.

Meanwhile, Grim Dawn received a big patch to its Crucible DLC content, Ascent patched in terraforming, and Shroud of the Avatar dinged up to $10,000,000 in crowdfunding.

Divergence Online brings a prequel survival game to Steam Greenlight

The Divergence Online project, a spiritual offshoot of Star Wars Galaxies, has spawned a survival game prequel that will lead into the MMO proper. This has been dubbed Divergence: Year Zero, and it is currently vying for votes on Steam Greenlight.

The devs said that anyone who’s already purchased Divergence Online will get Year Zero for free. “Many players liked our idea of a ‘modern simulation zone’ inside Divergence Online and at the same time, many players did not,” the devs said. “We listened and decided the best course of action would be to transplant this element of modern survival into its own game to keep the two timelines seperate and the result is Divergence: Online’s first companion game; Divergence: Year Zero.”

So what does Divergence: Year Zero look like? We won’t keep you in suspense long; a seven-minute gameplay trailer awaits you after the jump.

Make My MMO: Divergence ‘goes for broke’ (October 17, 2015)

It was another good week for Star Wars Galaxies offshoot Divergence Online, which cracked the top 10 on Steam’s Greenlight list and settled into a frequent patching cadence designed to get combat going sooner rather than later. Initially the team was going to wait until the completion of its current $15,000 IndieGoGo campaign, but instead it decided to “go for broke” and both fix existing stuff and create new stuff.

The rest of this week’s MMO crowdfunding roundup is just past the cut.

Divergence Online cracks Steam Greenlight’s top 10, starts work on combat

It’s been a very good week indeed for Divergence Online, as the upcoming sandbox MMO has shot into the top 10 list of Steam Greenlight titles.

Due to the support, the team is patching near-daily and has decided to ramp up its development timetable and start working on getting fighting into the game: “We’ve decided to basically go for broke and start burning what little reserves we had to get us the resources we need to do both things simultaneously: fix and improve existing stuff and create new stuff. What this means is that we’re going to begin developing combat right now and not wait for the IndieGoGo to complete.”

The Divergence team also announced that it will be hosting a livestream on Wednesday, October 14th, at 9:00 p.m. EST to field player questions about the project. It’s currently running an Indiegogo campaign to raise $15,000 for the game.

Make My MMO: September 26, 2015

This week in MMO crowdfunding news, Divergence Online continued to raise eyebrows. First, head honcho Ethan “Lord of Edge” Casner spoke with MOP regarding the game’s Star Wars: Galaxies lineage, its open PvP, and its brutally honest marketing campaign.

After perusing the comments of the resulting article, Casner decided to offer a consensual PvP server stretch goal in order to appeal to SWG fans who balked at Divergence’s FFA gankbox stylings.

The rest of this week’s crowdfunding roundup is just past the break!
