Players who want to get a jump start on their Shroud of the Avatar crafting career might end up taking a tour under the surface of the world. The developers report that they have opened up three new low-level mines so that newer players can start mining for that much-needed ore without having to wait until much later in the game.
SOTA’s artists showed off a couple of rewards that players will be able to obtain, such as torn and bloody wedding attire (if you’re missing Halloween already) or Yule gifts and candelabras (if you can’t wait for Christmas). There’s also moustache-themed helmets and cloaks to support the Movember movement for men’s health.
Shroud of the Avatar recently raised $60,000 from its last telethon and is currently running a free trial which is set to conclude on November 15th. The following day will see Release 48 hit the scene prior to the holiday rush.

It’s a well-worn but welcome roleplaying game trope that adventurers gather before quests in a colorful tavern full of shady characters, intrigue at every table, and a bard strumming a lute in the corner. This iconic setting is something that the team behind Ashes of Creation wants to get right with its upcoming game.
So what will the Ashes of Creation tavern offer? Aside from purchasable food and drink, a private chat space, customizable music, rentable rooms, battle maps on tables, parlor games, and (of course) rested experience. The team said that the latter is important to put butts in the chairs and “keep you socializing with your fellow players and to enjoy the amenities tavern owners provide.”
Taverns will also serve as a launchpad for quests: “Taverns foster adventure in a few ways, one large part being the bulletin board. The bulletin board, quests can be posted here and completed too. If a tavern owner needs supplies they can post quests, others can also purchase space in order to post quests as well.”
Meanwhile, check out the team engaging in all sorts of Halloween nonsense — and perhaps spot a few development Easter eggs on their screens!
It’s now been two weeks since we’ve had any word on the state of Marvel Heroes, as today marks the third missed Friday update in a row and Gazillion has yet to provide the information it promised on October 20th or explain why the Halloween events were neither toggled on nor promoted. The Marvel Heroes social media accounts remain without posts over that time period, negative Steam reviews are now piling up calling the game “dead,” and the PC playerbase appears to have shrunk to its smallest size in four and a half years. There’s also been no news on the Thor promotion that should sensibly be running right now in conjunction with Thor Ragnarok’s release today, nor on the new VR game the studio casually announced via the world’s most awkward stream at the end of September.
As we reported on Wednesday, two key community reps for the studio have been confirmed to have departed in the midst of the bizarre studio silence, and both overt and oblique accusations from former studio employees have surfaced in regard to “inappropriate conduct” toward female employees on the part of current CEO Dave Dohrmann, whose removal from the studio is now the goal of some activist players. Indeed, the studio’s former creative director has publicly stated that the board and company executives were aware of Dohrmann’s alleged behavior “even before they made him CEO.”
Do I love Halloween? Yes, yes I do. And while the season was in full swing, my mind was fully focused there. This season is a great diversion, especially in Secret World Legends
. But with the awesomeness that is Halloween winding down and with Samhain now over
, my mind can finally settle on other matters. Now I know for some, that means Christmastime and Krampusnacht. (One staffer here even declared/warned us of all out Christmas festivities starting November 1st!)
As cool as Krampusnacht is, my mind has turned instead to Season 2. Without my favorite holiday to distract me, I am keen on embracing the big awesome that we’ve all been waiting a long, long time for. New content! New stories! All new zone! Yes, Season 2, I am waiting for you. And the latest little teases coming from Funcom give me hope that we can get it sooner rather than later; the devs’ flaunting it more openly and allowing us to focus on it really has revved up my hype train. It’s almost like there is nothing else in the way and this is their complete focus. Oh yeah! *insert Kool-Aid Man here*
Last time, Massively OP’s MJ was only able to check out a couple of the Halloween quests in Fortnite’s Hexsylvania. Now, she’s diving back in to experience more before that awesome spooky map disappears! Join us live at 7:00 p.m. for MJ’s final foray into Fortnitemares.

Power to the people! Guild Wars 2
has opened the polls for players to cast their vote
on which fan-created weapon should be made into an actual in-game item.
The design-a-weapon contest resulted in over 900 entries, out of which 20 were selected by ArenaNet to advance as a finalist. Players are being encouraged to vote on which of the 20 should be turned into a Guild Wars 2 weapon, with the three finalists receiving the most votes to get this honor. The voting process will conclude on November 10th.
And while Halloween is over, the minipets live on! Check out the weirdly adorable Mini Choya Pumpkin Gang after the break.
Saying that revenue from Secret World Legends
has “exceeded expectations,” Funcom opened up to Venture Beat
about what’s coming next for the supernatural MMO.
“Season 2 starts to unravel new questions, while answering other questions that have been laid out before,” said Executive Producer Scott Junior. “Players will be traveling to a completely new location, encountering new NPCs with fully-voiced dialogue and cutscenes […] The plan is to continue telling the story and continue adding unique experiences that haven’t been seen before in the game.”
Funcom is supporting this weekend’s Extra Life 2017 event by encouraging players to sign up and help raise funds for this charity. Secret World Legends players who participate will receive a special in-game t-shirt from the studio.
And while Halloween is over, Secret World Legends players know that the holiday never truly ends in their game. Check out an amazing pumpkin carving that a fan did of “Flappy” in Agartha below.
Just because it is All Saints’ Day doesn’t mean that that Halloween reveling is over! No, Massively OP’s MJ will continue celebrating the season as long as possible. And Dauntless will allow her to do just that. The Dark Harvest event just started, and she’s hoping to get in on the action. Tune in live at 8:00 p.m. to get a glimpse of this event; you might even win a code to join the closed beta and try the Dark Harvest for yourself.

Black Desert’s November 1st update
is sporting a couple of new ways for players to group up and pursue a common goal.
The militia system was designed so that all players, regardless of guild involvement, can partake in the weekly conquest war as an offensive or defensive member. On a smaller scale is the platoon, a temporary group of up to 20 players that are trying to knock out a shared objective.
Even as the patch rolls out, the dev team is scrambling to fix an issue with the recent Halloween event: “We’re working on a solution for the Halloween event that is good for everyone. We ask you not to make tickets at this time.”
Meanwhile, players over in Southeast Asia are being invited into the Black Desert fold for testing. Closed beta signups are currently accepting new applications, but no matter what, everyone can fiddle about with the character creator on the test server to see what they can make.
Something weird is going on at Gazillion.
On October 20th, the studio delayed its regular Friday Marvel Heroes update summary, promising details on Monday. Almost two weeks later, that update still hasn’t arrived, nor has the Marvel Heroes Twitter account been active, even through Halloween, traditionally a big season for the team – but there was no event at all on PC this year.
What has arrived? At least one key studio community rep leaving – Frank “Fenixion” Sanchez aka PhoenixRed, who announced yesterday he’s “made a decision to move on” – and casual posts from Gaz’s TheDink regarding Thor skins, which have thus far been announced only on the German-language PlayStation blog (update: that’s since been removed, but now it’s on the Dutch blog).
A month ago, the studio first shocked fans by casually announcing a new VR game for consoles and then frustrated PC fans by releasing a console-exclusive patch and continuing to promise to “unify” the three platforms in November. Which, you might notice, is now.
It’s All Hallows’ Eve: A time to spook and scare folks (and probably gorge on candy!). And Massively OP’s MJ challenges you to a scare off! Now that Hide and Shriek is free-to-play on Steam, everyone can join in this Secret World spin-off and sneak around trying to spook each other. Are you brave enough to join a match? Join us live at 9:00 p.m. to see who can scare whom the best.

What happens when you take a city full of trigger-happy mercs and toss in even more weapons and instruments of destruction? Escape from Tarkov is finding out this week thanks to a “major” update that introduced 70 new items, more communication commands, better optimization, improved starter gear, and advanced weapon handling.
Not stopping to even take a brief break, the dev team is barreling to bigger and better things: “The next important stage in project development will start with the open beta, which is scheduled for launch at the end of 2017. By that time, the game will be expanded with new game mechanics, improvements of existing ones, more optimizations of graphics and network components, as well as additional game content, including new weapons and locations. Also, in the coming months, we plan to localize the game into new languages, including German, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese (Simplified), Polish, Czech, Portuguese, Japanese, and Korean.”
