MMO Cartographer: World of Warcraft, then and now

13
A month before the whole Hong Kong Hearthstone debacle consumed the gaming industry - and blissfully unaware that this article would ultimately be held back because of it - I put my innocent money down on Blizzard for my MMO Cartographer column here on MassivelyOP. I jumped on the World of Warcraft Classic bandwagon. It was a combination of FOMO and curiosity that did me in.
We all become done.

WoW (Classic) Factor: The journal of Nieve Vinther – final entry

4
Let me write about the day that the Cataclysm arrived. I wasn't going home. I just happened to be in Elwynn Forest, really, visiting an old trainer and introducing him to my boyfriend at the time. We were sharing a glass of wine, he was laughing about the way that an early exercise had me toppling into the water in the freezing cold of early winter. My laughter was of the shamed sort, but still warm; it was a funny story, one told with love rather than loathing. The sky was bright.

Perfect Ten: WoW Classic dungeon reviews courtesy of Azeroth’s Yelp

9
So, you all know that there's a Yelp equivalent in World of Warcraft, right? An awful lot of people forget about that, but Yelpcraft is seriously right there. It's been in the game since beta, which is why you can still look at it and see reviews about how zones would be much better if Paladins had talents and some ancient references to some terrible action star of the 1980s. Can't remember which one. Dolph Lundgren, probably.

Jukebox Heroes: Exploring World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth’s patch music

3
One of my favorite modern trends of MMORPGs is that studios are no longer saving the entirety of a soundtrack for the base game or expansion releases. Oh sure, those usually get a great album push -- especially if it's one of the bigger games -- but for a while now, many studios have also been releasing new music on a steady basis with significant content patches.
Do you really want to hurt me?
