Nexon’s Vindictus is killing off all of its PvP systems in two weeks

Nexon action MMORPG Vindictus went through a period of relative quiet around 2020, but it’s been putting out regular updates for the last couple of years, including new characters as Korean content is ported over. This is why it’s so frustrating to report that today, Nexon announced it’s sunsetting all of the game’s PvP systems.

According to the message on the official site and Steam, the “PvP content termination” activates on January 23rd, when the studio will remove siege match, arena, deathmatch, tournaments, and sports day from the game, constituting a wide chunk of PvP options. The changes also necessitate the removal of UI elements, specific NPCs, triumph medals, related quests, storylines, and the entire sports day region.

“Our sincere gratitude goes out to those who enjoyed and appreciated the PVP content,” Nexon says. “We will do our best to become a Vindictus team that always provides better contents for our players.”

The game’s official Discord took the news surprisingly well, arguing that PvP in Vindictus has always been a poorly balanced “afterthought” that increases developer time for every new character; in fact, western players had a inkling it was coming as it had been announced for China and Korea already. It stands to reason that the PvP content was underplayed and therefore fairly easy to axe – but that doesn’t make it any less sad.
