Age of Sail MMO Caribbean Conquest hits Kickstarter

Pirates, tall ships, the Age of Sail — wait, haven’t we seen this before? Perhaps so, but Invenio Interactive thinks it can do this niche genre better with its upcoming Caribbean Conquest.

The title will put an emphasis on realm-vs.-realm combat and economy, with plenty of opportunities for trade, boarding parties, and ship battles. Customization, down to player-designed pennants, will also help to distinguish this game. And yes, players can choose the virtuous life of a privateer for one of five countries or enter the devil’s own service as a pirate. It will be pay-to-play with a level-free design.

Caribbean Conquest recently launched its Kickstarter campaign to raise $42,975 for further development. The team said that it’s trying to capture “the point” of MMOs in the creation of this game: “We believe online gaming is about creating memorable moments with friends and strangers alike. We believe gaming should be an experience, and that online gaming is an experience to be shared.”

I wonder how this compares to Naval Action. That looked very interesting on a couple let’s plays I saw, so this here might also be worth a look.

But I also feel the Kickstarter burn out, so I’ll wait for release.

Sorenthaz Well I’ll be your alarm clock then, such a game is in the works, though it’s not known if it’s a true mmo, or just a very large multiplayer server-based game. Sadly I’m drawing a blank as to the name of it atm, but it’s being made by the old RARE company, they recently sent me a promotional email for some contest to do with it, so you should be able to google it.

It’s still in closed alpha though, but the trailer for it looked amazing, and very mmo’ish with a dozen+ players manning a ship and walking across an island with nameplates overhead.

cures in the 2-4 year development cycle anyone playing Naval Action would be ready to play a new game – focusing more on the role playing/trading/exploration aspects during the Golden Age of Pyracy.

i dont think there is enough niche-popultaion for more of those games. Naval Action took them all.

I am getting a real Pirates of the Burning Sea crossed with Pirates of the Caribbean Online vibe from this.
I liked both of those games quite a bit. Pirates of the Caribbean Online was a legit good time, fun quest, fun ship play, fun combat. Just an all around good time, (RIP thanks to Disney).
Also pretty neat soundtrack thanks to the franchise association.

Pirates of the Burning Sea I enjoyed while it was at SOE (Spanish Faction for life), however I haven’t really touched it since it left, from what I understand it’s in a pseudo-maintenance mode at the moment, I mean its website seems to indicate they’re not doing well at all.
I could be down with backing this in some way, we need another good MMO like this.

Like the idea, but won’t back it.  Been too burned lately on failed early access and kickstarters.  Good luck to those guys though.

I already backed Naval Action and this one seems very similar to it, only behind in development. How does it differentiate itself from Naval Action? I want this to succeed but not if it’s just a cheaper knock-off of Naval Action.

Looks like it’s just ship stuff.
Wake me up when a pirate sandbox MMO comes out that lets you do both land and sea stuff like in AA or something similar to it.

As much as I want a game like to this to happen:  Kickstarter nope.

If it ever gets made I’ll be a day one customer – until then, good luck.
