When you hear about something called The 1st Annual MMO Awards, you’d expect that it would be about… well, offering awards for MMOs and MMORPGs, right? Well that’s not exactly the case for the awards show being started by MMORPG streamer and Team Liquid member Eiya, which is only offering one game-specific award for Game of the Year.

Despite this event appearing on our general radar only recently, it has been developing for quite some time: It was first announced this past April and touted in July as “an event dedicated to the people who bring our favorite MMOs to life.” As such, awards focus on content creators almost exclusively, with categories that recognize video creators, cosplayers, event organizers, and new and well-known streamers. Voting began in mid-June and closed this past weekend.

For those who care to watch MMO influencers form a circle and congratulate one another (as opposed to, say, Geoff Keighley forming a circle for the gaming industry at large to do the same), the broadcast will premiere on Saturday, August 31st, at 8:00 p.m. EDT.

Incidentally, if you’d like to see awards handed out to games, our own annual MMO awards will be here before you know it – and they’ll actually occur at the end of the calendar year to boot, which is a good thing considering how nutso 2024 has already been.
