The Daily Grind: Do you play survival sandbox games solo?

Nope, just me.

Recently I’ve had a hankering for survival sandbox games. This is odd, since my prior history with these games has been… well, nonexistent! I don’t know why it’s been on my mind. But here we are, and part of me really wants to slowly eke out an existence in what is ostensibly a shared environment but is actually just me running around by myself. Possibly in Bodylande. This plan is not yet robust.

But that brings an interesting question to mind. Sure, MassivelyOP is an MMO site, and we cover these games because they are multiplayer titles or MMOs if not traditional MMORPGs. But they don’t have to be played with others, and many of the elements like PvP that can be contentious are also easily sorted out by just… playing offline in your own little sandbox. So do you play survival sandboxes solo? Do you enjoy the “survival” aspect but not necessarily the “against other players being jerks” aspect? And if so, would you ever consider playing them with others?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
