Secret World Legends allows players to convert Funcom points into Aurum

If you were sitting on a Scrooge McDuck pile of Funcom Points back when The Secret World announced its switchover to Secret World Legends and were steamed at all of that wasted money, don’t fret. As of today, you’ll be able to convert the premium currency from TSW into SWL.

By using the Aurum exchange, players can make a one-time conversion of Funcom Points into Aurum at a 12:10 ratio. Yes, it’s summer, so let the website handle all of that math for you.

Naturally, there are all sorts of restrictions and requirements, one of the biggest of which is that “bonus” points — the ones given to subscribers every month — aren’t eligible to be carried over to the newer game.

While I kind of expected this system was going to be restricted, and they had said early on that bonus points probably wouldn’t be transferable, I was holding out hope that they would learn from their past mistakes and the mistakes of their peers, particularly in the MMORPG genre. As a lifetime member, where these Aurum are concerned, I feel a bit left out in the cold… I purposely hung onto the few Funcom points from my last purchase, and of course all of my bonus points, in the hope that they would change their minds and allow them to transfer at least the one time. At the very least they should have had the Aurum transfer done at the same time as the character stuff transfer so people could have known and spent their points on cosmetics to transfer over… Overall a poorly thought out dick move on Funcom’s part, and I’m not willing to give them the benefit of any doubt considering the ridiculous cost of simple quality of life items in SWL right now… I mean $8 for 12 banks slots?! I am very disappointed.

That seems like a real dick move to not allow subscription stipends to convert.

@Justin This part of your post makes it sound like this is new information but this was told to us at the announcement of SWL:

“Naturally, there are all sorts of restrictions and requirements, one of the biggest of which is that “bonus” points — the ones given to subscribers every month — aren’t eligible to be carried over to the newer game.”

Conflating Bonus Points with Funcom Points confuses the main issue people are upset about which is that remaining Funcom Points were supposed to transfer to Aurum and no restrictions were ever announced or even hinted at.

“Only Funcom Points purchased from July 1st 2016 to June 26th 2017 are eligible for exchange.

Bonus points are NOT eligible for exchange.”

I wish people would get a 2nd chance to link accounts. Let people spend the points they were saving, the ones that were bought earlier or that are bonus points now that they know they won’t convert. Let them spend them on stuff and link that stuff into SWL like they could have if they’d known saving them would do no good.

We WERE told that Bonus Points would not transfer when they announced SWL. You will not be able to do anything about that.

However, we SHOULD be given the value of our purchased Funcom Points. That is a different issue.

Always a shame watching Funcom be their own worst enemy.

Yep.

I lost out on 3 of my patron keys after the steam debacle. They said they can’t give them to me. Due to limitations in their system, they cant tell if a player has or hasn’t claimed daily rewards.

U WOT M8?!?!

Why would anyone be surprised by this? They continue to spit in their customer’s faces. I give SWL a year tops.

I didn’t think any where transferring so i went on a spending spree right before legends came out. Not so sure my points would of transferred anyway with the date exclusion.

They specifically said that Funcom Points would be transferred to Aurum, but they didn’t give any details. The ability to finally do that transfer just happened today, months after the window to transfer cosmetics from TSW had closed, and with limitations that pretty much screw a lot of people.

It was 110% by design. They want you to buy them again.

Well it is going to backfire. I won’t be giving them anymore money. I like this comment from reddit:

“Well, I am somewhat disappointed. I’m getting shafted by this. And now I feel a lot less guilty about using their poorly thought out economy to farm Aurum in the game. Once I get the requisite number of characters slots to make that farming daily without a patron account, I’ll be dropping said patronage.
If they want to nickel and dime, so can we.”

Speaking as a Day 1 Lifetime subber of TSW, I feel they wanted to find a way to get more money out of Lifers all along in a pretty sneaky, underhanded way with SWL.

Funcom realized that they could give Lifers the same access to essentially the same game, but now wouldn’t be contractually obligated to give them a monthly stipend to spend in that new game, even though it’s the same one. Knowing everyone would switch over from TSW to SWL, it put an end to a benefit that was a major part of that sub.

I think because of that, I’m loathe to spend any additional money in SWL like I did in TSW. Even a gesture at a much lower rate of Aurum would have said volumes. 500 Funcom points a month wasn’t enough to corner the market on anything over a non-sub and a similar (based on SWL) amount of monthly Aurum wouldn’t be either, but Funcom realizes that’s money that someone wouldn’t be spending.

It’s when companies show this kind of penny-hoarding that makes me pull my purse strings tighter in response, not want to make up the difference out of my end.

I’m also a Day 1 lifetime TSW player, and I refuse to play SWL until we get an Aurum stipend (even if small).

Failcom relabeled what is essentially the exact same game clearly just to @&$# us lifetimers.

Lol, that is hilarious. Do you actually believe that? They aren’t “contractually obligated” to give you squat. The EULA that you agreed to allows them to:

FUNCOM RESERVES THE RIGHTS TO SUSPEND, TERMINATE, MODIFY, OR DELETE ANY ACCOUNT OR YOUR ACCESS TO THE GAME AT ANY TIME FOR ANY OR NO REASON, WITH OR WITHOUT NOTICE AND FUNCOM WILL NOT PROVIDE REFUNDS OF VIRTUAL ITEMS OR VIRTUAL CURRENCY.

YOU MAY TERMINATE THE AGREEMENT AT ANYTIME BY UNINSTALLING THE GAME
