Betawatch: Secret World Legends is coming in June (May 13, 2017)

Everyone who predicted Secret World Legends would miss its original spring target date gets a cookie. Turns out the game is launching soon, but not quite in the spring with a release date of June 26th. Whether or not you’re still looking forward to the title after all of the words spilled on it is another matter; we had our own interview on the development recently.

Otherwise, lots of stuff was happening in the test world. We lost track of all of it, but we’ve done our best to sum things up for you here:

One man, one MMORTS, one early access release

After seven years of development by a man named Robert Basler, The Imperial Realm: Miranda has finally released into early access.

Miranda was inspired by Command & Conquer and offers real-time strategy base building and battles between hordes of players. The game has been made on a shoestring budget and is charging $25 for those who want to participate in the early access period. If you like the game, that fee is a good deal, as it offers unlimited play from now until the end of time (or the game’s lifespan). Miranda is aiming to launch in May 2018.

“”When World of Warcraft came out in 2004, I was amazed by its huge world and immediately thought how fun it would be to play an RTS in a giant open world like that,” Basler said in a press release. “I never imagined it would take 13 years for someone to make that game, or that I’d be the one to do it.”

Make My MMO: Smed’s new studio, Camelot’s beta, and Elite’s Holo-Me (February 18, 2017)

This week in MMO crowdfunding, we did a retrospective on why crowdfunded MMOARPG Hero’s Song failed. It’s almost as if Justin knew (cue spooky music) because two days later, Hero’s Song’s John Smedley and most of the Pixelmage team showed up at Amazon, announcing a new studio and a new game for the shopping giant’s games division. In other words, don’t expect Smed back on Kickstarter any time soon.

Meanwhile, Star Citizen’s alpha 2.6.1 went live, we poked around TUG’s status, Elite Dangerous demoed its upcoming “Holo-Me” character creator, The Exiled prepped for next week’s launch, Ruin of the Reckless entered its backer test phase, and Camelot Unchained hinted at beta.
