There's really only one mode, when you get down to it.

It’s not a secret that I roleplay. I love to roleplay, my characters are important to me, and as a result of all of that I’m quite happy to drop money on a good illustration of my most important characters. I sometimes feel bad about the fact that other people have more art of their Final Fantasy XIV characters, while my own assortment is far more anemic, based in part on my reluctance to commission pieces. The pieces I have gotten have been uniformly exquisite.

Of course, not everyone roleplays. But there are a lot of people for whom MMO characters are important, not just roleplayers. Sure, you might not put thought into your character’s backstory, but there are people who are still willing to pay money to get a particularly great piece of art for a character. So are you among that number? Have you paid for art of your MMO characters? Can you conceive of doing so if you haven’t, and do you feel you got your money’s worth if you did?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
