The Daily Grind: What MMO do you think is more important than people realize?

We deserve this.

Here at Massively Overpowered, we talk a lot about MMOs. (Shocking, I know.) Some of that means covering games that other people just plain forget about, like when one claims that there were six MMOs out when World of Warcraft launched. Some of that also means noting the impact of games that other gaming media might overlook. But the fact of the matter is that there are titles we overlook, too, and sometimes that’s just plain unfair.

Sure, it’s easy to just think about Second Life as a naked punchline, but that also means forgetting the impact it had on the very notion of what MMOs could be. We certainly don’t talk much about Lineage, even though that’s still making money hand over fist for NCsoft in its native Korea. None of us play MapleStory, but it seems to do just fine for itself.

Of course, the argument could be made that these games aren’t that important, but I think that’s part of the fun of this field – there are games which make an impact that even dedicated watchers of the genre sometimes miss. So what do you say? What MMO do you think is more important than people realize? Is it a game that people still talk about but not for the right reasons or with enough credit, or is it something that no one talks about enough?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
