Social media is tricky for any MMO. Realistically, we all know that every social media presence is managed by people who know what they’re doing; the people in charge of a professional product aren’t just giving the keys to the kingdom to anyone who happens to work there, much less an intern. (It’s not like here where I could just post “fart empire” on our Twitter account with no further context.) So there’s always an air of artificiality layered over it. Thus every social media account is trying to seem genuine and small while actually being… well, not that.
And yet some games are better about that than others. Some just lean in on the fact that you know this is a professionally managed account and don’t pretend to be warm and genuine; some are run by people who know how to retweet memes about the game and highlight the community well. And some are… not… that. Some of them are really Steve Buscemi walking up and asking how do you do, fellow kids? So which MMO do you think has the most cringeworthy social media presence?
