The Daily Grind: How often do you change your character’s outfit in an MMO?

WE HAVE THE TIME

It’s funny to think that back when I started doing this job, the idea of having cosmetic outfits in an MMO was actually not universal. Not every game had them, including the biggest MMORPG on the market at the time! Now, of course, the idea of fashion being anything less than the real endgame is laughable, but there is a flip side to that, and that is having worn the exact same outfit in-game for the past five years because why would you mess with perfection?

Of course, once you’ve assembled the perfect outfit and thus no longer need to do much of anything, you have less incentive to play the game and that doesn’t work out well for the developers. So the arms race is on, but instead of trying to produce the highest possible stats (simple, tiny-brained, a child could do this), the devs are trying to produce the absolute best fashion (amazing, truly outstanding, add a dye channel and save the world). But how often does it work? How often do you change your character’s outfit in an MMO?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
