Today’s Daily Grind is inspired directly by the “you’ve been touching too much grass” meme. Obviously, the powers that be want us back scrolling and clicking and buying once our allotted grass-touching time is expired. And games in particular are always trying to tempt us to return.
So I think about this question a lot, and you know the marketing people at MMO studios are obsessed with it. It’s one thing to constantly hunt for new audiences, but how do you recapture people who tried your game and left?
I don’t mean email campaigns and ads; those will remind people you exist, but they won’t necessarily convince people back over the hump of reinstalling and trying again.
Personally, I know nothing gets me back like new content or something major being fixed that would improve my play. Other people are looking for freebies or free play time. Still others won’t return until a specific thing they hate is exorcized for good. Money is nice also, but less likely.
What are the best ways to recapture inactive MMO players? And what works specifically for you?
