Super Mario Party Jamboree confirms 8-player and 20-player online party modes

As we get closer to Super Mario Party Jamboree’s October 17th, 2024 release date, we haven’t gotten much more info out of Nintendo than character reveals (hi Pauline). However, a recent overview trailer did catch our attention, as it confirms true online play. It’s not just couch co-op, and it’s not just a single mode for the 20-player online mode we heard about in the original announcement trailer.

In the 20-player Koopathlon, you’ll play against 20 random players from around the world, doing minigames to collect coins, which let you progress across the board. Occasional “Survivathon” minigames will directly pit you against these players, and losing will set you back on the board; naturally, the first player to cross the finish line wins.

Nintendo also reiterates that up to eight players can team up in the online mode, though whether or not that’s for couch co-op that also goes online or it’s simply parties of eight online-only friends is yet to be revealed. (We reached out to Nintendo PR and will update this page should we learn more.)

The specific mode is called Bowser Kaboom Squad (and is not limited to just friends); in it, players collect bombs and other items to defeat Imposter Bowser, all while switching between the battles and multiple minigame rounds that allow you to collect items for what seems like a co-op battle. Whether or not more details drip in before release remains to be seen!
