It’s hard to know exactly how many a “small number of employees” is when layoffs are announced by a massive company, but in any case, Nexon America has confirmed that layoffs have occurred as part of a recently announced restructuring and formation of a western development group.
A statement from Nexon America references a “hyperlocalization” effort that involves “hiring teams to adapt [its] games to match the tastes of local players in large markets like Europe and North America” to form the aforementioned Los Angeles, California, development group. Unfortunately, this apparently couldn’t happen without shedding “a small number of roles, with severance offered to those leaving” as part of this group’s creation.
The company tries to further cushion the bad news by pointing out that it will be hiring designers and engineers to fill out this new team and promises to share more “exciting” news about its plans soon. We’re going to suggest that announcing hiring efforts in the same statement that confirms layoffs might not be considered encouraging and enticing.
