Fresh start servers knock every player of an MMORPG back to zero. Nobody has more money, or more gear, or more advantage beyond learned skill and practice. This is a good thing, especially for long-running MMORPGs with an entrenched playerbase who might turn off new players. But the problem is that those entrenched players kind of don’t want to start over from zero. The whole reason that they have become entrenched is that they enjoy having resources.
So what would entice you to a fresh start server in an MMORPG? Keep in mind that we’re not talking about just rolling an alt, but starting over completely from zero with no help from your mains and no friends who can power you up. New cosmetics? Achievements? Faster leveling? A changed experience? The glory of proving that you can still do everything on your own? The possibility of being sent bars of gold in the real world? (We haven’t heard of a studio doing that last one, but if it happens, let us know.)
