Ashes of Creation will launch its web store next week

If you’re curious what was going on with Ashes of Creation’s promised web store to allow fans to donate even more money to its crowdfunding coffers following the game’s highly successful Kickstarter campaign, the short answer is that it is coming. Next week, in fact.

Intrepid Studios announced that the web store will go live on June 20th alongside internal email integration for current backers. The team also said that “exciting” announcements are coming during livestreams on June 16th and 30th.

Thanks to deeper pockets, Intrepid has been expanding its development team. Five new members were announced: Lead Economic Designer Rocco Scandizzo (Activision, Vivendi), Lead Technical Designer Akil Hooper (EverQuest II, Fallout New Vegas), Lead Programmer Kevin McPherson (PlanetSide 2, Shadowbane), Senior Character Artist Mat Broome (H1Z1, DCUO), and Programmer Alex (Amazon).

Are we getting a big ol’ Total Amount Raised number, a la Star Citizen?

I’m happy to see AoC doing something with the money they’re getting. They’re not just sitting around trying to create the game with a skeleton crew when cash comes in – they’re hiring, creating more art, etc.

This is when I don’t mind giving money to MMO development, is when I can /see/ them putting the money back into the game.

Ahhh, doesn’t it just warm your heart, you can almost predict the phases of a Kickstarted MMORPG.

Spending resources to establish a game store, before a game is even close to being ready. Comon guys, we need to keep giving this company money with promises of in-game dress up, instead of actual content.. Forget those old fashioned ideas about just making a game, if it is good people will buy it and then give you more money…

Ahhh, doesnt it warm your hearth to look around and see all those pay to win mmo’s and generic copy paste clones of clones.

Its almost as if studio’s dont bother to try anymore and just open their cashshop in a generic mmo game where you have to swipe your creditcard to gear up instead of going out there in an open world and kill bosses and participate in the world….

Steven Sharif while not only being an mmo gamer since his young age he made quite some cash and is investingmuch of his own money into this mmo.

The kickstarter of 3.2 million was to unlock extra perks and another problem was the community who lives in Europe who do not have acces to creditcards as we use a 2way bankcard and directdebit method were all left out on the kickstarter.

Just move along if you dont like AoC and go play those crap mmo’s my man.
I backed Star Citizen and i backed Ashes of Creation, the only 2 games worth it in my opinion.

I look around and all i see is crap mmo after crap mmo after crap mmo.
Some are so bad they dont even get released in the west.
And the most fantastic mmo’s have giant paywalls or grind till your eyes bleed for little progress compared to swiping your wallet.

Like SC its going to be a long process and more fundings are going to be required but hey if thats the price of finaly making a good mmo that touches most goals i am all up for it.

The funny thing is all those whiners and cry baby’s on mmo site’s bashing and pooping about mmo’s and then a guy does step up who is a mmo gamer himself and wants to give it a shot is the evil himself and the bad guy.

Just like Criss Roberts is being attacked for trying to make a fantastic space mmo.
You can have your doubts, i do have doubts he can pull all the stuff off and hit all bases in one homerun.
But even if its half the game both of them promises its still miles better then all those crap mmo’s we have on the market today.

Have a good one o/

Did you actually think they were going to build a MMORPG that Big and dense with 3 million dollars? Kickstarter really is what it says “a Kickstart”… Not ” This money will completely pay for the next 2 to 5+ years of dev plus all the leases, rents, health care costs, taxes, other employee benefits, equipment..etc…its a method of raising cash to help Start..not complete production. Its always been this. This game will cost at a minimum 10 million+ but if they tried to KS that amount they would have failed the KS and scared away any potential investors. Did anyone NOT expect them to open a store to cont to sell packages and other stuff to continue funding the dev? Anyone?

So, don’t give them money. I’ve got loads of cash & will do w/e I want with it.

Man, I really feel like a grumpy old codger because I really want to say I remember when you need to have a game to have a store…or something more than pre-rendered concepts

This is why so many people i know don’t play mmo’s anymore. These devs care more about getting money from you than making a great game.

What they care about is making enough money..to keep the business in business..I didn’t know that servers, electricity, and employee healthcare could be paid for in Goodwill and hope? All game companies are a business and a Business exists to make money..period. how they get that money can vary but it all comes down to cold hard cash.

Remember, they are opening this to allow folks who could not back on Kickstarter to still be a part of the action.

The store as far as we know will be open only for a limited time (originally estimated for the month of June, but it took some time to get the data from Kickstarter!)

lol limited time store. Hurry hurry hurry the cash shop is LIMITED!

Catch up on the facts before being an ass.

Yeah creating a sense of urgency is marketing 101 and this guy knows his marketing, not that that’s necessarily a bad thing. I still might back this at some point.

Reader

Yeah, wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t leave the store up with different packages, or at least it would be kind of dumb if they didn’t.

The store will be a permanent fixture same as Crowfall, Star Citizen, Shroud of the Avatar..its just a way to secure a constant inflow of cash..you know that thing that allows you to get leases and bank loans, and attracts investors…which zero cash flow does not. they will burn thru that 3 million in less then a year..so yeah more income means continued development rather then going OH well we tried but we are out of money.

Heard good things about Akil and McP from a former DBG dev, sound like really solid pick ups for Intrepid.

And a lotta leads. Did they not have leads before this (I would guess not for the economy, at least), or did existing leads just get demoted? >.>

Can’t say I’m surprised. Compared to DBG right now, even Ashes seems to have a brighter future.

Maybe they all got promoted to executive director or something. After all the money tap is flowing.

Yeah I think the former, they just didn’t have this many people at all. Looks like a nice ramp-up.

Still haven’t backed the game yet but out of all current list of MMORPG’s, this looks to be the most promising. I’ll jump on board eventually.

Crowfall, Albion, MU Legend, Camelot Unchained, Pantheon, Chronicles of Elyria, WAKE UP!

It’s starting to sound like that other game with spaceships which sells them before release. I’m not sure what to think..

Actually this is reassuring, lets me know that they realize that 3 million bucks isn’t enough to make a game the size of the one they are making ( 10 million +) is about what it takes to make a decent sized and complex MMO today. most of the other MMO games that didn’t do this ran out of money and failed.

As long as Ashes won’t take as long as “that other game” to complete, I don’t mind…

They need a mascot.

Maybe someone who’s a snazzy dresser.
Who inspires confidence.
A good public speaker too!
