Chronicles of Elyria will feature an event with three years of darkness

How long do you like your day/night cycle in MMORPGs? Chronicles of Elyria is preparing its fans for the possibility of a record-breaking three years (in game), due to a special astronomical phenomenon called “Longest Night.”

According to the site, Longest Night occurs when the planet Selene gradually blots out the light from the system’s star, causing a year of perpetual night and two additional years of twilight on either side. Yet this isn’t a horrible or world-ending situation as you may assume.

“Longest Night is also one of the most cherished times in Elyria,” the devs explained. “The need to cooperate to survive brings people together in ways that no other event in or on Elyria can. Despite its darkness, Longest Night has given Elyria some of its most sublime art and inspired displays of charity and goodwill that are unparalleled in other times.”

The Longest Night only occurs every 52 years, so players won’t be experiencing it in-game too often. When it does happen, the community should expect a rash of holiday events throughout the different cultures, such as Sunsleep, Winterswatch, and Twilight of Care.

Hmmm, that’s some odd astronomy to manage that. Some very odd astronomy. Not that it matters much, my only two real concerns with this one are launch and some sort of proof that the entire selling of kingdoms and setting of lore by them didn’t mess things up so much that it killed the game.

Once they can prove that, I might be interested.

Cue the pre-order night vision cash shop item.

They are currently running a cash shop sale for their EP currency. Get em while you can! You can even buy some EP to send as a gift to that special someone.

Personally I’m holding out for the mythical lore event called Launch. Maybe they should spend more time writing that one.

Gotta say, I’m glad to not be the only one who is feeling strung along and ready for real news instead of these fabled events.

UI, graphics engines, quests, launch dates? Who needs ’em we have future events to plan. Tell us about the upcoming Valentine’s event.

Maybe they should hold off and await the mythical event called Launch.

Which conveniently timed was supposed to be this week but is now 2 years away. Less time on bullshit and fund raising and more time on development please. The time for stories about how great their features will be is over. ASHES started 6 months ago but have already passed these guys as far as development goes.

It’s way past time we actually see progress.

That was just getting through Moria.

Actually, I was referring to the Dawnless Day part of the story, which took them three years to get through.

Aye, although Moria is a decent stretch of sunless bliss as well!
