Stronghold Kingdoms developer Firefly Studios claims to be making history today by becoming "the first developer to place the fate of entire game worlds in the hands of its players." We suspect games like A Tale in the Desert and Shards Online might quibble with that, but the rationale is certainly interesting: The game's upcoming expansion, Final Age, is expected to "give a single player, the Marshall of a winning House, the option end their game world with the press of a single button."
"In this expansion a single House of players must conquer and capture all Royal Towers, a new PvE target on the world map, before deciding whether or not to press ‘The Button’ and close their world forever. Players are then rewarded with multiple prize tiers based on their rank and position at world end, with up to $500 of in-game loot each."
The strategy MMO is also due to offer a revamped iOS and Android client. There is no date yet for those versions or for the Final Age expansion, so take heart: You don't have to worry about some jerk deleting your mapserver on a whim just yet.
MMORTS Stronghold Kingdoms is celebrating five million players this week with the launch of an update that focuses heavily on PvP in the newly expanded playable game world encompassing a whopping 151 countries. That headcount number will no doubt go up this summer when the game expands beyond PC and Max to a mobile client for Android and iOS.
To celebrate the milestone and update in the meantime, Firefly Studios has granted Massively OP 1000 Global Conflict 2 promo codes that will unlock a ton of goodies for your account: 5 Random packs, 1 Super Random Pack, 1 Ultimate Random Pack, 1 Research Pack, 5 Army Packs, 200 Card Points, and 2 x 7 Premium Tokens.

The MMO industry moves along at the speed of information, and often we’re deluged with so much news here at Massively Overpowered that some of it gets backlogged. That’s why there’s The MOP Up: a weekly compilation of smaller MMO stories and videos that you won’t want to miss. Seen any good MMO news? Hit us up through our tips line!
This week, TERA surprised and disturbed all of us by announcing the sale of "mood clouds" that demonstrate the next level of emotes by placing a rainbow-vomiting cloud above your head. Just in case you weren't being subtle enough with your emotions.
Read on for more bits of gaming news we didn’t want to leave behind!
The loss of EverQuest Next is bad news, but Landmark appears to be poised to absorb the strength of its fallen sibling with its further updates, like boss fights where you fight two things at once. The game is indeed getting a storytelling system, allowing everyone to jump in and craft stories, dungeons, and the like. Its next big update is due on Monday and will wipe characters and claims; two more such wipes are planned before the title finally launches.
The rest of the beta world, meanwhile, continued to move on full steam ahead.
- Paladins has deployed another major build to the game's test servers, including a new payload map, Serpent's Temple. One wonders what sort of payload is being delivered. Serpents, perhaps. (Thanks to Sorenthaz for pointing this out to us!)
- RuneScape Chronicle early access has begun, which means that the time has come for all closed beta testers to enjoy the benefit of their even earlier access. Stay tuned for normal access, slightly later access, and one-year delay access.
- Is there room in your heart for another digital card game? Star Crusade has released its first official trailer, and it wants your affection. And your attention. Also it wouldn't mind having your stepstool, like, if you weren't using it.
- Stronghold Kingdoms has released its trailer for its mobile versions, if you really like building castles all over the place but don't like having to sit down in your actual home to do so.
- You can buy a founder's pack for the upcoming Paragon, but you don't have to content yourself with just a bunch of digital goodies that might blow away in the digital wind! There are hard copies available with your purchase as well. They're quite material and may be used to install the game, or simply as an entertaining conversation piece.
And just like we always do, there's more stuff down in the list below. Did we miss something? Let us know down in the comments, if you'd be so kind. We appreciate it.
MMORTS Stronghold Kingdoms is getting a massive expansion today in the form of its Island Warfare update.
The lords of Stronghold Kingdoms can now turn the ocean red by waging bloody war across 38 tropical islands with new, changing sea conditions! Players must fight for a single kingly throne avoiding rough seas and the occasional hurricane as they attack, scout and trade across 18 provinces and 99 separate counties.
Conditions change daily with tail winds, rough seas, violent storms either slowing or accelerating the progress of attacks, trade ships and scouting parties as they move between islands. Attacking forces may catch a strong tailwind and obliterate their enemies in the blink of an eye. Traders can double their earnings in a single day by all casting off while conditions are favourable. Scouts on the other hand could be so heavily delayed by storms at sea that, upon returning home, find their actions have sparked a conflict that has destroyed their home!
Firefly Studios has granted Massively OP a thousand promo keys to pass along to our readers and usher in the new update; the codes grant 5 random packs, 1 super random pack, 1 ultimate random pack, 5 army packs, 200 card points, and 2 x 7 premium tokens.

Stronghold Kingdoms is a rich castle-themed MMORTS with over six years of operation under its belt, and this week, it's patching in a new expansion. The Global Conflict update adds a massive landmass and increases the number of battling countries to 151. This week we'll discover that there is a fishing MMO to end all fishing MMOs, get a free Guild Wars 2 soundtrack, celebrate a 15-year anniversary, and more!
It's been a while since we've talked about Stronghold Kingdoms, a veteran MMORTS our writers have previously praised for its casual-friendliness, community, and stability. If you've been itching to give an MMORTS a try, then it's your lucky day because we've got 100 Stronghold Kingdoms gift pack codes to give out to 100 readers, courtesy of developer and publisher FireFly Studios.
Gift pack codes will deposit a bundle of goodies into your account, including 100 card points, two seven-day premium tokens, and 20 packs: five apiece themed random, farming, industry, and research. Two caveats: You can't use the code if you redeemed a "winter giveaway" code last winter, and you can't stack more than one of these codes on one account.
