The Daily Grind: How do you keep occupied while playing mindlessly in MMOs?

I’d say that about half of the time I’m playing MMOs, I’m deeply engaged in the story, puzzles, unknown territory, and tricky combat. This all requires my full attention, and I gladly give it.

The other half is when I’m doing those mindless tasks: my daily quests, farming, catching up on alts. I can more or less let my sub-brain handle all of this, which frees up my attention to be fed by other sources. I use this time to catch up on podcasts, watch videos on a smartphone positioned right under my monitor, or listen through video game soundtracks.

When you’re playing mindlessly in MMOs, how do you keep occupied? Does multitasking come into play very often?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
