Up until very shortly before the launch, I was not planning on buying Final Fantasy XI. I had heard enough horror stories at that point about EverQuest and didn’t really pay attention to MMOs at that time, so I didn’t expect to like it. Obviously, I am sitting here years later with my first experiences in that game being a well-known and unabashed part of my MMO history, so it seems pretty clear that as much as my relationship with the game has significantly evolved over the years, I ultimately did like it quite a bit.
We all know that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but the cover does usually contain important information, and it gives us an idea of whether or not we’ll like a game before playing it. But sometimes the cover makes you think that you’re going to dislike a game you ultimately fall in in love with, which is where questions like today’s come into play.
